7 'why choose' books that prove more is more

Why have just one MMC when you could have two? (or three, or five…) Try these ‘why choose’ titles on for size.

Tower of champagne glasses.

To my fellow greedy girlies who won’t take one MMC for an answer, I see you. The ‘why choose’ or reverse harem trope is on everyone’s lips, and for good reason.

A woman. Multiple men. All of them devoted to her. Breath-takingly explicit about it. There’s no indecision here, darling. This is about knowing exactly what you want and refusing to compromise.

Here are seven books that make the case for ‘more is more’ conclusively, from cosy omegaverse to dark kink clubs to dragon shifters. As always, please check content and trigger warnings before diving in: some of these are dark, explicit and intentionally intense, and knowing what you're walking into is part of reading well.

If you want literary smut, the kind that makes you feel things in your chest and your body simultaneously, Sierra Simone is your woman, and this is her masterpiece. A retelling of Tristan and Isolde set in a Washington DC kink club, this gives you a bodyguard hired to protect a bride-to-be on a yacht voyage, a forbidden kiss under cold stars that neither of them can come back from, and a groom who is described as cruel, wicked and shamelessly amoral. The direction the story takes will have you putting the book down to stare at the ceiling more than once. Plus there’s two more delicious ‘why choose’ books in the Lyonesse series to dig into when you’re done.

For the smut girlies who want their ‘why choose’ wrapped in menace and mystery. Our FMC arrives at Neveah University on a scholarship and immediately becomes the target of her new stepbrother and his three dangerously handsome friends: think hazing, secret societies, kidnappings, and enemies who make terrible decisions feel irresistible. Tate James is a TikTok sensation for a reason: she builds slow-burning hostility until it detonates your desire. If dark academia, bully romance and "I should not be enjoying this" tension leave you weak, add this to your TBR pile immediately.

This one. THIS one... Jessica was the prom queen who made Manson, Jason, Lucas and Vincent's lives miserable in high school. Now she's back in town, she owes them a debt, and they intend to collect. The former bully willingly surrendering to the men she once tormented is the book's entire signature energy, and Harley Laroux writes BDSM scenes that are dark, kink-heavy, consent-forward and frankly unforgettable. There are certain scenes involving all four of them in one place and a debt being paid in a very specific way that live in my head rent-free. Five peppers, not for the faint-hearted, and I am recommending it to everyone I have ever met.

If you’ve never dabbled in the Omegaverse but you love a cosy, spicy romance, this might be your way in. Omega teacher Ivy gets trapped in her classroom by a blizzard with three men and their combined scents trigger her very first ‘mini heat’. The pheromone-driven chemistry is literally biological and inescapable. This is the warm blanket version of ‘why choose’: found family energy, genuine humour, and heat scenes wrapped in courtship rather than chaos. A feverish delight from start to finish.

Sports romance meets ‘why choose’ and the result is 594 pages of chaotic, joyful, explicit goodness. Rachel had one perfect anonymous night with a hockey player, only to discover he's now her patient and doesn't even recognise her. The dynamic between the playboy trying to win her back, his surly best friend, and a superstitious goalie who's decided she's his good luck charm is simultaneously comedic and very steamy. Emily Rath writes sex-positive, queer-inclusive ‘why choose’, and she does not hold back. If you've been why-choose-curious but wanted something fun and warm rather than dark and intense, start here.

For the girlies who want their ‘why choose’ with dragon shifters, fated mates and a cast that reads like a romance trope bingo card: a golden-retriever football player, a vicious-tongued tortured one, a protective broken boy, a spoiling billionaire, and a genius professor. Yes. All five. Our scholarship pre-med FMC's world literally sparks to flame when they arrive in her life, with a delicious slow-burn setup and the promise of escalating heat across the series. Think of it as an extremely enjoyable investment in your future pleasure.

A dark, aged-up Peter Pan retelling where the Darling women have been disappearing to Neverland for two centuries, and this time, the Never King and his Lost Boys refuse to let Winnie leave. Peter Pan is hot-and-cold and emotionally destructive in the most compelling way, the twin fae princes bring an entirely different flavour of seduction, and the "broken Darling girl vs. vicious Lost Boys" setup is the kind of enemies-to-lovers dynamic that you can devour in a single sitting. At 192 pages it's a fast, addictive entry point into the series with heat that escalates with each book.

I attended the February Caribbean reading retreat and wish I could rate it higher than 5 stars! This was the best vacation I could have imagined. Not only was the resort amazing, the conversation and the ladies could not have been better.

I had such a lovely time on my retreat to Sicily. Megan is an amazing host who really looked after all of the group and made the trip feel like a fab holiday with friends. I went alone and everyone was lovely - I will happily book again next year. Book! You won't regret it.
