Ladies Who Lit WhatsApp Community Guidelines

Welcome to the group! This is a safe and supportive space for women to connect, talk books, share retreat memories, and find joy in our literary lives. To keep things running smoothly and respectfully, please read and follow the guidelines below:

Be Kind, Always

We’re here to lift each other up. Please be respectful, kind, and considerate in all conversations. Disagreeing is fine—just do it with compassion.

We are encouraging everyone to engage in good faith and keep conversations positive and constructive for the group.

No Spam or Promotions

This group is a spam-free zone. That means:

• No advertising your own business, products, events, services or revenue-generating projects.
• No affiliate links, fundraising requests or promotional content.
• Please don’t use the community to promote or grow personal social media accounts, including Bookstagram, BookTok, blogs or similar platforms.
• Events, experiences or activities organised outside of Ladies Who Lit should not be promoted or shared through LWL community channels unless they have been specifically approved by the Ladies Who Lit team.

We love that you’re a multi-passionate powerhouse, but this isn’t the place for marketing. We want recommendations and conversations to feel genuine rather than promotional.

If this guideline is overlooked repeatedly, we may step in to keep the space aligned with its purpose.

Keep It On Topic

This is a space for book talk, reading recommendations, Ladies Who Lit updates and connecting with our community. We love a tangent as much as anyone, but please keep conversations broadly relevant to the purpose of the group and be mindful of the guidelines around promotions and external events.

Message Volume

WhatsApp can get noisy! Be mindful not to flood the chat. Use emojis, GIFs, and voice notes thoughtfully so everyone can keep up.

This is a space for book talk, retreat updates, and reading recs. Let’s try to keep chat relevant to the community's purpose.

Independent Meet-Ups

We absolutely love seeing friendships form through Ladies Who Lit and members are very welcome to arrange informal meet-ups with one another through the community — coffee, drinks, dinner, a trip to the bookshop… we’re here for it!

We simply ask that LWL channels aren’t used to promote external events, organised experiences or activities being run by another business, book club, community or organisation, unless they’ve been approved by the Ladies Who Lit team.

For member-organised meet-ups, please also avoid using the Ladies Who Lit name, messaging, copy, logo or branding in a way that could suggest the meet-up is officially organised, sponsored or endorsed by Ladies Who Lit.

Our official online book club events are organised by the Ladies Who Lit team, including our monthly global members meet-up.

Flag Any Issues

If you spot something that feels off – be it spam or inappropriate content – please message an admin directly. We’re here to help.

We’ll always do our best to review and respond as soon as we can.

Trigger Warnings & Sensitive Topics

When discussing books with heavy themes (violence, trauma, grief, etc.), please give a quick content warning so members can choose whether to engage. Everyone’s comfort levels are different, and we want this to remain a safe space for all.

Group Changes or Removals

To keep the space positive and supportive, admins reserve the right to remove members who consistently break the guidelines or disrupt the community vibe. We want to protect the warmth and trust that make this space special.

Sharing Retreat Content, Privacy & Trust

If you’re posting retreat photos or videos, please make sure everyone featured is comfortable being shared—especially if you’re posting outside the group or tagging Ladies Who Lit. Consent always comes first.

While we encourage in-person community meet-ups, we kindly ask that the event name, messaging, copy, logo, or any similar branding not be used in a way that suggests the event is officially organised, sponsored, or endorsed by Ladies Who Lit.

Please respect people's privacy and avoid taking screenshots from group chats or sharing personal stories without permission.

As for online book club events, we take care of those through our monthly global meet-up. It takes place on the last Monday of each month at 19:30 GMT and brings members from all around the world together to discuss our current read. If you're not already a member, feel free to sign up – we’d love for you to join us.

By sharing content within the group, you acknowledge that other members may view it; however, redistribution outside the group without consent is not permitted.

Zero Tolerance for Hate or Harassment

There is no place within Ladies Who Lit for bullying, harassment, discrimination, hate speech or deliberately abusive behaviour. Any behaviour that makes another member feel targeted, threatened or unsafe may result in removal from the community.

Keeping Our Guidelines Up to Date

We may occasionally update these guidelines to keep the space safe, supportive and aligned with our community values. By remaining in the group, you’re agreeing to the most up-to-date version. Thanks for being part of our literary sisterhood 💛
